Bishon Yorkie
Bishon Yorkies, also known as Bichon Yorkies, are a hybrid dog. They are not a separate type of yorkie and are not a breed recognized by any kennel clubs, except the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).
Bishon Yorkies are a result of the breeding of a Bichon Frise or a Havenese with a Yorkshire Terrier. As a result of the pairing, two versions of the dog may result. These two versions have different coats and temperaments, but determining one type from another is difficult until the puppy is about 16 weeks old.
One type of Bishon Yorkie is the Gremlin. The Gremlin version has a thin, short coat. Gremlin Bishon Yorkies have a lot of energy but are a better choice for households with older children. The second Bishon Yorkie is the Teddy Bear. These dogs have a thick undercoat and a dense outercoat. They are also more patient and easy going, so they work better with younger children than the Gremlin variety does.
Like many hybrid dogs, the Bishon Yorkies provide the best of both worlds for dog owners. In most puppies, the positive aspects of the Bichon and of the yorkie are passed on. The result is a cheerful, good-natured, resilient, and intelligent dog.
Many dog buyers turn to Bishon Yorkies because they typically have fewer health problems. One of the reasons why so many purebreed dogs have serious genetic health problems is that they the genes which cause those problems are inherited from both parents which makes developing that problem highly likely. Since Bichons and Yorkies have different genetic problems, the puppies are unlikely to inherit sets of genes for the same problem from both parents thus their risk of developing these problems is reduced.
While this is an excellent reason to choose a hybrid, you must remember that only puppies born from the mating of a purebreed Bichon and a purebreed Yorkie will receive this benefits. Breeding Bishon Yorkies with one another or with one of those purebreed dogs will not reduce its risk of inheriting genetic problems. For this reason, you should ask to see the paperwork for the parents and to examine them in person, if possible.
Bishon Yorkies are a little larger than Yorkies. The weight of adult Bishon Yorkies is between seven and thirteen pounds. Their height is usually between nine and twelve inches. In comparison, the average Yorkie weighs about seven pounds and stands about six inches tall.
Bishon Yorkies also have another benefit: they are designed not to shed. As any allergy sufferer knows, when a pet starts shedding, this leads to allergic reactions which make pet ownership less than pleasant. Because Bishon Yorkies do not shed, even people who have allergies can enjoy this breed.
For people looking for a dog with an allergy-free coat, friendly temperament, small size, consider the Bishon Yorkie.
